A Spectacular Lakeside Landscape

This residence is the treasured retirement retreat of hobbyist master gardeners who were looking to replace their existing deck and create a cohesive outdoor living space with framed lake views. A natural bluestone patio creates an undulating, organic form that ties together three decks, a timber-frame rough cedar pavilion and established planting beds.

A Beuchel Stone natural stone veneer outdoor fireplace anchors this stunning, rustic timber-frame cedar pavilion, complete with wood-burning outdoor fireplace for the ultimate hosting experience. Situated near a pond with a high water table, helical piles were used for the most stable footings.

Bill Lytle’s comprehensive landscape design integrated multiple building systems within an established garden setting. Working in 3D to visualize concepts and utilizing rendering composites early in the process helped our clients to visualize scale and proximity to treasured trees and planting beds. Design constraints such as lawn mower deck clearances and water table depths defined the design early-on.

Two new Trex composite decks create terraced views with plenty of room for seating and dining before transitioning down to the lower bluestone patio. Vertical cable railing allows for continuity with the existing deck and minimal sight line disturbance to the lake.

Elevated planting beds flank the living room deck for layers of seasonal color and texture. Whether hosting a large get together or intimate fireside snuggle, this backyard adapts with the expansive patio and human-scaled pavilion refuge.

Low-voltage landscape lighting casts a soft, warm glow for relaxing evenings by the fire or wayfinding from the lake after an evening cruise. FX Luminaire LED strip lighting wall washes the pavilion ceiling to cast indirect bounce light that invites you to grab a good book and stay awhile. Step lighting creates visual interest while making evening strolls through the incredible gardens a breeze.
